UNWANTED REFLECTION

You look into the mirror
What you see is repulsive
A nightmarish reality
An unwanted reflection.

Youth wasted in ignorance
Strength wasted in foolery
Unattained ambitions
An unwanted reflection.

Many dreams dead unachieved
Many visions unrealized
Many targets pushed aside
An unwanted reflection.

Wise men you listened not to
Good teachings you rejected
Moral lessons you learnt not
An unwanted reflection.

You thought life to be a ride
In a fast rollercoaster
Accidents you so forgot
An unwanted reflection.

You slept while others worked, now
You’re awake whilst others rest
A sour bitter reality
An unwanted reflection.

Now you are faced with rewards
Of your lifetime of mistakes
Now you know better, how late!
An unwanted reflection.

Hopes broken into regrets
A hopeful future shattered
Into a hopeless present
An unwanted reflection.

Youthfulness gone from your face
Strength gone from your marrows, you
Know not where to start afresh
An unwanted reflection.

Now you look in the mirror
And you detest what you see
An embittered reality
An unwanted reflection.
